02. Osaka - The Host Family

In Osaka we were lucky enough to stay with Carolyn's old host family for 1 week. The mother of the family (Mrs Fukui) now lives alone, but during the first 3 days of our stay, Mrs Fukui's daughter Mika and her two boys Yuuri and Junri came to stay as well.

Mika spoke reasonably good English but Carolyn ended up translating the majority of conversation. At times it felt a bit like "Lost in Translation" in that she would talk to them for seemingly minutes at a time and the translation would come out as "They think you are quite tall!"

The boys didn't seem to grasp the fact that I could not comprehend a word of what they were saying, but they were intrigued by the Tall Westerner who came to stay.
