09. All templed out in Kyoto
Today was the frantic day to see how many temples we could do in a day. By the end of it I almost felt like if I never saw another temple again, it would be too soon! Kyoto has hundreds of them, we consolidated this to some of the famous ones:
Kinkaku-ji Temple - The magnificent golden temple
Ryoan-ji Temple - This features the famous stone garden which is raked to within an inch of its life.
Ginkaku-ji Temple - The Silver temple which isn't covered in silver but has the most magnificent garden. The moss is sculpted in such a way that upon close inspection it is structured like a forest in itself.
Kiyomizu temple - This is high up in the hills and has a spectacular view back over Kyoto.
We covered a lot in two days, but that is only scratching the surface. Kyoto is also a very modern city and has a lot of new buildings, definately worth visiting to see the traditional Japan.
