16. Yokohama

Yokohama, in it's own right it would be a city larger than Melbourne by population, but it tends to be swallowed up by Tokyo since it is only a 30 minute train trip. Yokohama is a modern seaside town with relatively little in the way of historical building's since what the earthquakes didn't destroy, the bombs in WWII did.

A lot of the buildings in Yokohama are quite new and there is an air of affluence about the city. It also has the world's largest Chinatown too which was wall to wall food but since we had Katsudon when we arrived I didn't sample too much. Katsudon for those who don't know is a pork cutlet in a bowl of rice covered with sem- cooked egg and onion. It is absolutely delicious, almost a Japanese equivalent to Chicken Parmigiana.
