11. The Home of Glass & Steel

Next stop Tokyo, after a 3 hour ride on the bullet train, it was time to check in to Tokyo. We stayed in the Shiodome area which is a new group of buildings that have been completed next to Shimbashi. The whole area has a futristic feel to it, it is still all very new and a little sterile perhaps but is impressive nonetheless. The mountain photographed was taken from the train, it isn't Mt Fuji though, we somehow missed it.

The first night in Tokyo and it is Yakitori time. We went to a little yakitori bar underneath the train tracks at Ginza Station. We had to go for a tatami table which meant no shoes and cramped legs but it had to be done once. We had dinner with one of Carolyn's friends, Tricia, who is living in Japan working with JAL, she was interested in hearing about the trip so far and it was also nice to be able to have a conversation in plain old English, no translators!
